William Pitts Blackburn, 86, of New Harmony, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2012 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was born on January 13, 1926 in Posey County, IN to Oscar and Dorothy (Johnson) Blackburn.
Pitts was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII and aboard the USS Topeka. He was a retired letter carrier for the US Postal Service. Pitts enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working around the farm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Horace Blackburn; sister, Virginia Jeffries.
Pitts is survived by his loving wife, Lois Blackburn; daughter, Rhonda Thompson; 2 grandsons, 2 great grandchildren; stepsons, Duane Daws, Wayne Eddie Daws and Mike Summers; step daughters, Luonna Uhde and Nancy Rivers; 14 step grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held at Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, IN.
