Donald C. Reinitz, 88, of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2012 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was born in Posey County, Indiana on January 22, 1924 to Charles and Ruth (Robinson) Reinitz.
Don was a member of Point Township Church of the Nazarene. He was a Navy veteran serving in WWII and belonged to the American Legion, Owen Dunn Post #5. He had worked at Babcock and Wilcox as a crane operator for over 13 years and retired in 1989 from the Mt. Vernon School District as a mechanic. Don loved gospel and country music.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Naoma “Moe” (Burks) Reinitz; his late wife, Betty (Saltzman) Reinitz, son, Rick Reinitz; step son, Darrell Newman; brothers, Merle, Kenneth, and Robert; sisters, Helen Burris and Mildred Schiefer; step great grandson, Ian Brown.
Don is survived by his children, Jim (Cinda) Reinitz and Donna (Reinitz) Curtis, both of Mt. Vernon; step children, Brenda (Larry) Bosecker of Cadiz, KY, Jennifer (Keith) Murphy, Tammy (Danny) McCarty both of Mt. Vernon, Robin Abbott of Owensville, Brett (Tina) Newman, step daughter in law, Susan Newman both of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Ryan and Nikki Curtis, Justin, Joseph and Levi Reinitz; step grandchildren, Laney Ford, Neil Bosecker, Amber Billings, Tawana Cox, Eric Murphy, Dax, Megan, Carmen Newman and Jeremiah Daniels, Schuyler, Lance, and Derek McCarty, Amanda and Katie Betz, and Sadie and Andrew Miller; 5 great grandchildren; 20 step great grandchildren; brother, Charles (Ruth) Reinitz; sisters, Donna (Kenneth) Overton, Joyce (Kenneth) Frashier, and Doris (Joe) Hammer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Schneider Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with burial to follow at Bellefontaine Cemetery where the Owen Dunn Post #5 Honor Guard will conduct graveside services.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at the funeral home.
